What this does

Video to GIF turns a short video clip into a high-quality animated GIF using FFmpeg's two-pass palette workflow. Auto-plays on Discord, Slack, Reddit, Twitter, anywhere — no Nitro needed.

When to use it

  • Sharing a 5-second highlight on Discord (GIFs autoplay, videos don't preview)
  • Adding an animated reaction to a Slack channel
  • Making a tutorial GIF for a README on GitHub
  • Creating a banner animation under a website's size budget

Frequently asked

Why does the GIF look so much better than other online converters?

Uvelia runs FFmpeg's two-pass palette workflow — pass 1 builds an optimized 256-color palette from your clip, pass 2 encodes using that palette. The result has far less color banding than the naïve direct conversion most online tools use.

How long can the GIF be?

Technically up to 60 seconds, but anything over ~15s tends to blow past the 10 MB Discord limit. Keep clips under 10s for safe sharing.

How do I keep the GIF under 10 MB for Discord?

Three levers: shorter clip, lower width (480px is plenty), lower FPS (15 reads as smooth, 10 reads as choppy but is much smaller).

Why are my colors slightly off?

GIF is limited to 256 colors per frame. The palette algorithm picks the best 256 for your clip, but very colorful scenes lose subtle gradients. For more accurate motion, use a short MP4 instead.
