What this does

Video Compressor shrinks a video down to a target file size — perfect for Discord's 10 MB free-tier upload limit, email attachments, or anywhere with a size cap. Uses FFmpeg compiled to WebAssembly so all processing happens in your browser.

When to use it

  • Sharing a clip on Discord without paying for Nitro (10 MB free limit)
  • Attaching a video to an email under the 25 MB Gmail / Outlook cap
  • Uploading to a forum or CMS with a tight size limit
  • Reducing storage for a personal video archive

Frequently asked

Will my video be uploaded to a server?

No. FFmpeg is loaded as WebAssembly and runs directly in your browser tab. Your video never leaves your device — verify by checking the Network tab in DevTools while compressing.

How long does compression take?

The first run downloads ~24 MB of FFmpeg WASM (5–30 seconds depending on your connection). After that, compression is roughly 0.3–1× of the video's playback time depending on resolution and your CPU.

Why is the output sometimes larger than my target?

FFmpeg's bitrate estimator can overshoot on complex scenes. If the output is over your target, try a lower resolution (480p / 360p) or shorten the clip first.

What's the maximum video size I can compress?

Practical limit is your device's RAM — most laptops handle 500 MB videos. Free accounts cap at 50 MB; Pro lifts it to 500 MB.
